Minister Teresa Ribera celebrates the end of 12 years of work in which 200 million euros have been invested
The Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, celebrated this Thursday the end of the decontamination of the Flix swamp after more than a century of mercury spills, during a two-day visit to Tarragona.
The minister stressed that it is “the largest environmental restoration project” ever undertaken in Catalonia, which has been completed by the public company Tragsa, since it has picked up the witness of the work started by Acuamed 12 years ago and in which invested almost 200 million euros.
Acuamed considered the works finished in 2015, although 79,300 cubic meters of material remained to be removed, with 33 tons of contaminated sludge, around half of it by DDT.
Meeting with the ‘councillor’ Jordà
The vice president, in addition to visiting the end of these works, also had a meeting scheduled with the representatives of the Movement to Fight for the Ebro Delta (Molde).
Tomorrow, Friday, he will meet in Sant Jaume d’Age with the ‘councillor’ for Climate Action of the Generalitat, Teresa Jordà, and representatives of the Consensus Table, to analyze the current situation of the Ebro Delta.

His agenda includes a visit to the Marquesa beach in Deltebre, which is in full swing to add sand to reinforce the Delta after the damage caused by various storms.

Ribera has also been seen this Thursday with the mayor of Mont-roig del Camp (Tarragona), Fran Morancho, in the capital of Tarragona.
As reported by the Mont-roig City Council, Morancho has transferred to Ribera his concern about the regression of the coast and has asked for more solutions, apart from the annual contributions of sand.
