The dark street style at the Moldovan Brands Runway

The ‘Moldovan Brands Runway’ (MBR) took place in the Moldovan capital Chişinău at the weekend, an event that was intended to promote local fashion in particular, but also offered space for international brands with presentations and shows.

The guests also proved that the event had a lot of creativity and style to offer. The street styles of the visitors ranged between tradition and innovation. However, bright colors didn’t seem to be in the foreground, which made the overall picture appear rather gloomy.

Objects become accessories

The fact that one visitor was holding a creepy doll and hiding her face behind visor sunglasses added to the vibe even more. Overall, it seemed like objects played an integral role in many of the looks, giving the impression that guests were trying to outdo themselves with each piece. From traditional teapots and cups to books to a frame of US dollar bills repeatedly covered in the words “Ugly” [Engl. für: hässlich] were provided, there were some bizarre accessories on display.

Computers and Sci-Fi

Such everyday objects can also be integrated into clothing. The focus seemed to be on a futuristic aesthetic. Computer parts were used for this and so, among other things, a keyboard became a peaked cap and the tangled cables became a top item. But a look that featured a dark combat suit combined with darkened sunglasses and metallic facial jewelry à la Headset also steered towards space adventure.

Goth rave

Back in the present, the Y2K trend also played a certain role in Chişinău. Some visitors opted for a goth rave look, which of course particularly relied on dark tones. However, there were even occasional neon accents that provided a contrast. Tattered tights were seen with short denim skirts, which were combined with a studded belt as a skimpy top. But ruffles, tartan miniskirts, tribal tattoos and large, silver statement necklaces also underlined the aesthetic.

Loose robes

After the future and the present, of course, a look into the past couldn’t be missed, which was particularly highlighted by loose garments and dresses and rounded off the mythical vibe of the street style looks in its own way. The wearers also played with long and wide layers, which were combined with tight-fitting accessories and corsets.
