The dark arrangements give Pink Oculus’ vocals a melancholy bed ★★★☆☆

Pink Oculus was a big Dutch R&B promise six years ago, but Esperanza Denswil saw her creativity stifled by personal misery. That’s why it took a long time before her ep delicious (2016) got a sequel. Before Wisdom is actually her debut album, which continues the line of her five songs that have been released since the summer.

The dark beats and sometimes somewhat sinister arrangements of producer Binkbeats give the synths and vocals of Pink Oculus a melancholy bed. It all sounds exciting, but you still miss a little lightness. Just a soulful dance beat, like six years ago, Pink Oculus doesn’t do that anymore, but this beautifully produced album really needs that.
