In ‘Trien’ the poem by the Hoornse resistance heroine Trien de Haan is interpreted in the performance of a dance performance. Under the direction of theater maker Nanska van de Laar, the young dancers immersed themselves in the history of Hoorn during the Second World War.
Theater maker Nanska van de Laar says that the dance performance is based on a poem by Trien, called ‘Appél thoughts’. “During roll call, they often had to stand for hours, because everyone was counted. If one person was missing, the counting started again. Just as long until everyone was counted.”
Poems
Resistance fighter Trien de Haan was arrested in 1942. She survived Ravensbrück concentration camp and wrote a poem about her thoughts during roll calls. Yesterday she was honored with a plaque for her and her family.
The gestures of togetherness, strength and hope play an important role in the performance. In addition, the viewer is taken into the question of why. The young dancers try to imagine what it must have been like during the war. “In your head you also have to experience what they have experienced. For example, the pain. I try to concentrate, but I doubt whether I really feel anything.”
The performance will be played twice on May 4 in De Boterhal in Hoorn, on the occasion of the event Theater After Dam. Both shows are already full.
