The collectible figures from Funko Pop – easily recognizable by the oversized head – are omnipresent when it comes to fan articles for films, series or bands. Opinions can be divided as to whether the figures are beautiful. But that doesn’t stop Funko from constantly producing more. Now it hit The Cure, the band members don’t seem to know what to think of it.
Apparently frontman Robert Smith has to swallow first. “Gulp,” he wrote on Twitter, adding, “Gulp, so [Sprechblasen- und durchgestrichenes Lautsprecher-Emoji]. So either he doesn’t have the words, or he has to hold back from trumpeting his real opinion beyond the characters.

“I don’t know if that means we’re being put down or uplifted,” keyboardist Roger O’Donnell wrote on Twitter. But he doesn’t want to put up with too much criticism either. To a fan who wrote that he liked the Duran Duran and Pet Shop Boys characters better, he replied, “If you don’t like them, don’t buy them…I really don’t give a fuck.” Another fan thought the characters were “Damn awful,” O’Donnell comments, “There’s always a miserable whiner, isn’t there…”.

In addition to Smith and O’Donnell, the figure set also includes the other band members Jason Cooper, Reeves Gabrels and Simon Gallup. They are not the only musicians who, depending on your point of view, have become victims or beneficiaries of Ver-Funko-ization. There are already figures from Iron Maiden, Metallica, the White Stripes and Liam and Noel Gallagher.
