Robert Smith confirmed on Twitter last Friday (March 31) that on orders from The Cure, approximately 7,000 bootlegged tickets for their North American tour on resale websites have been canceled.

“Approx. 7k tickets for about 2200 orders have been cancelled. These are tickets purchased with fake accounts / listed on secondary resale sites,” the singer wrote on Twitter.

After falling out with Ticketmaster with the better end for The Cure and their fans to keep concert attendance affordable for everyone, this marks the next step in Smith’s direction of being visitor friendly and economically accessible to as many shows as possible to host. The band restricted pre-sales to states like New York and Illinois, which have strict laws protecting resale.

“Offering to sell/send account details to circumvent TM (Ticketmaster ed.) transfer restrictions… All tickets purchased in this manner will be canceled and the fees originally paid for those tickets will not be refunded” , he wrote at the intelligence service. And added: “The fees paid for these tickets will be donated to Amnesty International and the tickets themselves will be sold back to fans.”

The “Shows Of A Lost World-Tour” starts on May 10th in New Orleans, Louisiana, and includes a total of 30 performances. The last one will be held in Miami, Florida on July 1st.
