The Crown Season 5 trailer features reenactments of the famous 1995 BBC interview between Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and journalist Martin Bashir (Prasanna Puwanarajah).
According to Prince William’s wish, the interview, in which his mother Princess Diana talks about her marriage and mental problems, among other things, was originally never to be broadcast again. But now it becomes an issue in “The Crown”.
Netflix said in a statement, “It will reflect what we now know about how the interview came about and how Diana was treated.” added some fictional scenes. Overall, the interview in the fifth season should fill almost four and a half minutes.
In Interview 1995: Mental Illness and the Affair of King Charles III
During the recording of the report, Lady Di spoke to interviewer Martin Bashir about, among other things, King Charles III’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now Queen Camilla. She also spoke about mental illnesses and her bulimia.
In the interview, the then Princess of Wales revealed previously undisclosed events for the first time and in response lost her royal title “Her Loyal Highness”. As a result, the princess no longer received personal protection, which allegedly meant that the accident that killed her in 1997 could not be prevented.
According to investigations, interviewer Martin Bashir used skillful rhetoric and interpersonal deception to obtain information from the then Princess of Wales as part of the post.
William wrote in a statement in April: “In my view, the fraudulent manner in which the interview was obtained significantly influenced what my mother said. The interview was instrumental in souring my parents’ relationship, and it has hurt countless others since. It is my firm belief that this Panorama program has no legitimacy and should never be broadcast again.” William continued, “It has effectively established a false narrative that has been commercialized by the BBC and others for over a quarter century.”
Season 5 of The Crown will begin streaming on Netflix November 9th.
