The Crown is on hiatus after the Queen’s death

The Netflix series “The Crown” about the British royals will probably take a break from shooting after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Series creator Peter Morgan said so Deadline.com. “Out of respect” for the Queen, filming for Season 6 will be suspended for a while.

Morgan called the series a “love letter” to Elizabeth II. He didn’t have anything else to add except “silence and respect.” “The Crown” shows the life of Elizabeth II since her marriage to Prince Philip in 1947. The fourth season, which aired last, lasted until 1990 and covered, among other things, the marriage between the then Prince Charles (and now King Charles III.) and Diana.

There have been plans for a break for a long time

Morgan’s comments aren’t new, the series had long had plans for how to deal with Elizabeth’s possible death during its run. As soon as it aired, Stephen Daldry, who directed some of the early episodes, said the show would be paused out of respect if it did. “None of us know when that moment will come, but it would be right and proper to show a token of respect for the Queen,” he said in 2016.

Elizabeth has been portrayed by two actresses in the seasons that have aired to date: Claire Foy played the young Elizabeth at the time of her accession and early years as Queen, with Olivia Colman taking on the role from Season 3 onwards. In the 5th season, which is to be seen from November, Imelda Staunton plays the Queen as the third actress. The sixth season that follows is said to be the last, so the series hasn’t caught up to the present. Peter Morgan also wrote the 2006 film The Queen, starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth.
