The song was written by someone who fraternizes with the fascists Marko Perkovicknown by the stage name Thompson.
The artist, named after the machine gun he used in the war, is a divisive figure in Croatia.
– He is a war veteran who writes declarations of love for his country, but the songs are often too aggressive and nationalistic. He has supporters, but many condemn what he does, Resic says.
Thompson is a familiar man to Croatia’s national team stars. He was seen with the team in the parade organized in Zagreb after the World Cup silver in 2018.
