The crisis of the Government delays the negotiation of the budgets of Barcelona

  • The local government announces that the Republicans are freezing the issue pending the outcome of their confrontation with Junts per Catalunya

  • Ernest Maragall’s group denies having started any debate and hopes that Barcelona en Comú and the PSC present their proposal to all the parties

The government of Ada Colau He intended to present his municipal budget project for 2023 this Thursday, some accounts somewhat higher than those of the current year. The negotiation was going to start this Tuesday with a meeting between representatives of the ERC group and the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Councilor for Budgets, Jordi Martí.

According to Colau government sources, the republicans have announced that freeze that negotiation until the general political situation is clarified, that is, until it is known how the dispute between ERC and Junts is settled and if the latter party leaves the Catalan Government. Consequently, according to that version, Ernest Maragall’s group had postponed that meeting.

But ERC has replied with indignation noting that there is no negotiation in progress and therefore cannot be postponed. ERC emphasizes that what it considers appropriate is that the project of the accounts must be made known to all the municipal groups and that later, in any case, this possible negotiation will come.

To all this, the presentation of the project remains in the air. If an agreement is not reached, it is always present the alternative of rolling over accounts. It is common in an election year and was the most likely scenario in the summer. Back from the holidays, the parties involved warned that despite the fact that the municipal elections will be held next May, there could be a budget agreement in the city if it was also closed on the regional front.

But the crisis between ERC and Junts dynamited, at least temporarily, that double entente. From the outset, the ‘comuns’ themselves announced, through the mouth of their leader in Parliament, Jéssica Albiach, that they are freezing the negotiation of the regional accounts. Like ERC but in the Catalan Chamber.
