The NFL loves stats! From Travis Kelce’s yardage gain in the presence of Taylor Swift to the chicken wings consumed at the Super Bowl, the US experts don’t miss a statistic. But what did the sporting events have to offer in week 12? sport.de tells you the most exciting statistics of the weekend.
Tyreek Hill hunts Megatron
Before the season, Tyreek Hill announced that he wanted to break the 2,000-yard mark. In his twelve games so far, the “Cheetah” has amassed 1,481 yards and thus 123.4 yards per game. He would currently be on course for 2,098 yards.
And even if he doesn’t quite succeed, he would “only” need 1,965 yards to overtake Calvin “Megatron” Johnson and set a new NFL record for receiving yards in a season.
Mike Evans extends his own NFL record
Speaking of receiving yards. Mike Evans also celebrated another milestone at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game last weekend. The Bucs wide receiver now has 1,012 receiving yards, marking his 10th NFL season with over 1,000 receiving yards.
Incidentally, that is of course an NFL record for every year of his career. No player before him managed to deliver like that in the first nine seasons. So Mike Evans broke his own record.
The Detroit Lions’ lightning start was also record-breaking, as they were able to decide the game against the New Orleans Saints in the first quarter, or so it seemed. At the back it was tighter than expected.
After just seven minutes, the Lions were already 21-0 up; they were the first team since the Green Bay Packers in September 1986 to score three offensive touchdowns in this short time after kickoff.
Belichick and Patriots caught in record low
There are few bright spots in New England these days. One of them is the good defense, which only allowed 26 points in the last three games. However, this also “enables” a historically weak performance by the Pats. Since the Chicago Cardinals in 1938 (!), no team had allowed 26 or fewer points in a three-game span and lost all duels.
Due to the disastrous performances, the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick are heading for a season with a win percentage of .167. That would be the lowest percentage of a head coach who has previously won the Super Bowl with the team. Current “frontrunner”: Tom Landry and the Cowboys, who hit .188 in 1988.
Jordan Love makes Aaron Rodgers forget
The Green Bay Packers have finally arrived this season. The offense in particular seems to have found its feet now. Quarterback Jordan Love delivers and makes Packers legend Aaron Rodgers forget, at least for the moment.
A record of 3-0, 65% completion rate on 100+ throws, 8 or more touchdowns without turnovers, a passer rating of 115 or more, over 40 rushing yards and only five sacks. No quarterback in NFL history has ever achieved this impressive combination of stats.
Hopkins enters a select circle
DeAndre Hopkins also has good statistics. Since the weekend, the wide receiver has 900 receptions, more than 12,000 yards and 75 touchdowns. And all in his first eleven seasons. Only Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrsion, Brandon Marshall and Larry Fitzgerald had ever achieved this in this form.
