The country’s new ‘unlucky youth movement’? That’s KSA Mortsel: after mudslide last summer, now outbreak of norovirus | mortar

Just as scouts Oosterveld from Wilrijk had to rush to find a new meadow for the summer camp this year, KSA Mortsel had to do the same last year. The KSA wanted to move to Rochefort, but due to the deluge in the area there, KSA found a safer alternative in Dranouter in West Flanders. But there too the weather was bad and the camp was completely rained out by torrential rain. The camp was engulfed by a thick stream of water and mud and the members and leadership had to be evacuated to the local meeting center. Camp done.

This year, KSA made another attempt to camp in Rochefort, more specifically in the village of Han-sur-Lesse in the Lesse valley. Depending on age, the camp started on July 19, 20 or 23 and would continue until Saturday. But on Thursday, the camp had to be terminated prematurely – again – due to an outbreak of the norovirus, also known as the ‘camp virus’. This causes stomach flu, severe diarrhea and vomiting. It is highly contagious and affects all ages. Head, stomach, muscle aches and mild fever are also symptoms.

The main management of KSA Mortsel refers all communication to KSA national. “It is true that the camp was stopped early due to illness”, Niels Coeleman confirms there. “Half of both members and leadership became nauseous and showed other symptoms.”
