When Lyon was on its way to the top match of the French league against Olympique Marseille on Sunday, the bus carrying the team was attacked with stones, among other things.
Two windows were broken in an instant. In addition, the team’s head coach Fabio Grosso, 45, received a bad wound above his left eye. It was quilted.
Lyon supporters’ buses were also stoned on their way to the Stade Vélodrome.
The match was supposed to start at 21:45, but the match has now been postponed due to the riot, as Grosso and the Lyon players are shocked by what happened.
Lyon, one of the big French clubs, has had a miserable start to the season. The team is the jumbo of the entire league. It has collected just three draw points from nine games. Even Marseille is only in ninth place.
Grosso jumped at the helm of Lyon in mid-September. The pace has hardly changed under the man, as the balance of four games is one draw and three losses.
Italy’s Grosso came to the attention of the general public at the 2006 World Cup when he scored the decisive penalty in the World Cup final against France.
