The city of Ostend invests 30,000 euros in language opportunities for toddlers
Since 2021, Ostend has been making money available to invest in projects that improve education. This is done in the context of the diversity program ‘Everyone Together’. Schools, associations and organizations can submit a proposal for this.
Cooperation
In addition to innovation in education, the city is also strongly committed to cooperation. In 2022, GO! Basisschool Kroonlaan and the Vrije Basisschool Sint-Andreas Schapenstraat for the first time a collaboration project. Both primary schools want to strengthen pre-primary education with their project ‘Together at the Start’.
With the project, the schools focus on exchange in the classroom in which the home language is given a place. After the language activity, parents will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and contact between parents and school will be relaxed. In this way, the learning opportunities of toddlers and first preschoolers increase when they learn Dutch.
Welcome moment
The primary schools also organize weekly welcome moments for both children and parents. In addition, the parents meet monthly during group moments to get to know the partners in the neighborhood and what they offer.
