The City Council renews the waste bins and mailboxes of Ciutat Vella

Within the framework of Pla Endreça, 221 pneumatic collection mailboxes that are in poor condition due to the corrosion of their materials have begun to be replaced in the Ciutat Vella district. In addition, the replacement of more than 1,500 litter bins and the installation of 20 new ones have begun. They have a vertical opening with a round handle and a pedal to open them, and additional protection has been applied to prevent corrosion of their materials and rust. All the bins in the district will be changed and the models will be standardized to increase waste collection by 8%. So, In total, 1,504 litter bins will be renewed with two models: some bins with a capacity of 70 liters and others with a larger capacity, 220 liters, in places with more activity in public spaces. At the same time, pilot tests will be carried out with litter bins adapted to the characteristics of Ciutat Vella. On the one hand, 15 litter bins will be installed in the Plaza de la Gardunya with a side opening to prevent seagulls from emptying them. And, on the other hand, 10 large-capacity litter bins with self-compaction systems will be placed in points of the district where space is used intensively, such as Avenida de la Catedral, La Rambla or Plaza del Mar.
