The City Church in Groningen, in collaboration with the municipality of Groningen, is starting a new initiative in the weeks leading up to Christmas. On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December, interested parties can participate in the Christmas Urban Walk.
Interested parties can get acquainted with the story surrounding the birth of Jesus during a walk at various hotspots in the Groningen city center. The start of the walking route is at the Nieuwe Markt in Groningen, where participants know by scanning a QR code that they are walking from ‘station’ to ‘station’.
Volunteers from De Stadskerk are stationed along the routes to ensure the walk runs smoothly. The walkers pass the most beautiful indoor and outdoor locations in the city of Groningen, where the Christmas story is told through dance, art and music.
“We want to show the story surrounding the birth of Jesus to as many people as possible,” explains pastor Mark Stoorvogel. “Participants in the walk get to experience the Christmas story in a special, contemporary way. At the end of the walk, they can talk to our volunteers to talk about their experiences during the walk.”
The Christmas Urban Walk is free and is for young and old. Participants can choose a 30-minute or an hour walk. Pre-registration is not required.
