We had to wait a long time, now the time has finally come: “Avatar” is back! And convinces above and below water.
THE STORY: Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) has left his human body completely and now belongs to the tribe of the Na’vis in his avatar body. He even has a family with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Danger looms as humans land on Pandora again. Jake’s presumed-dead nemesis Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) returns in an avatar body. He wants revenge.
THE STARS: Sam Worthington (“Clash of the Titans”) and Zoe Saldana (“Star Trek”) are seen only as blue-skinned Na’vis. Using the motion capture process, facial expressions and gestures were transferred to their computer avatars. Sigourney Weaver (“Alien”) also plays her 14-year-old daughter Kiri.
THE DIRECTOR: James Cameron (11 Oscars for “Titanic”) broke all records in 2009 with “Avatar”. After a 13-year wait, a total of five films are planned.
BG RATING: The film slogan “More cinema is not possible” is to be taken literally. With a running time of more than three hours, a visual spectacle is offered in the best 3D technology.
But the film also shines with an exciting plot with plenty of emotions and never-before-seen underwater scenes. An experience that only cinema can offer. (192 min., free from 12)
