The Kinderhotel in the Burcht van Wedde is fully booked for all holidays this year. ,,And thanks to sponsors we can pay for everything”, says Frank Ferrari.
He is chairman of the Burcht te Wedde Foundation. He manages the medieval building on the edge of the village. The Kinderhotel has been located on the top floor for more than 10 years, with room for 10 boys and girls and 4 supervisors.
The Forgotten Child
In it, children from, for example, homes celebrate a few days of vacation. They end up in Wedde through the Het Vergeten Kind Foundation and other comparable organizations. They don’t have to pay anything. The foundation receives money from individuals, companies or organizations such as Rotary clubs.
“During the corona crisis, little or nothing was possible here, but now that everything is allowed again, we receive a huge number of requests,” says Ferrari. “We are full for all school holidays. We were fully booked during the May holidays, the same applies to the summer holidays and the autumn holidays as well. And we already have requests for many weekends in non-holiday periods.”
Individuals
Ferrari is happy with this great interest. “The need for this facility is still there, just like before the corona period. The children come from all parts of the country and also Germany. We also have contacts with a home there. But I’m just as happy that we can afford all of this. All kinds of companies and service clubs and individuals give money, sometimes even for several years. We could always use more donations, but we can cover the costs and never have to say no.”
