The Catalan PP follows in the footsteps of Andalusia and asks to abolish the wealth tax

The Catalan PP look at Andalusia and follows in the footsteps of its regional president, Juanma Moreno. The popular also press from Catalonia to abolish the wealth tax, as happened in 2011 in Madrid, betting on subsidizing it to 100%. In the resolution proposal that the party will present in the general policy debateto which EL PERIÓDICO has had access, ask the Government to promote this measure, that the inheritance tax be discounted by 99% in acquisitions due to death and also the repeal of several taxes of the Generalitat arguing it with high inflation.

Specifically, they refer to the abolition of taxes for the emission of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere produced by commercial aviation, for the emission of gases and particles into the atmosphere produced by industry, that of packaged sugary drinks, the carbon dioxide emissions from mechanical traction vehicles, non-productive assets from legal entities, and installations that affect the environment. All of these, understanding that they have a “negative impact on economic activity and the increase in the cost of goods and services.”

Secondly, require a reduction of the regional section of personal income tax, especially to low and medium incomes, before the end of 2022, and, in addition, reduce the donation tax and the property transfer tax, without specifying how much. At another point they focus on the request to extend the discounts so that the Catalans deduct the costs of nurseries, textbooks and school supplies, private insurance coverage and care for people over 75 years of age. Finally, they request that the deduction for rent be increased for young people up to 35 years of age and for large and single-parent families.

In Tuesday’s debate, the leader of the Catalan PP, Alexander Fernandez, defended the generalized tax cut seeing it as “positive” for “growth, innovation and the economy of Catalonia”. “Crises enrich governments and impoverish citizens. This is the right time to cut taxes,” she snapped. The president’ Pere Aragones closed the door to tweak Catalan tax policy and attacked the “wild game” of the popular barons, although Junts approved in its congress that it would bet on studying the abolition of the wealth tax, although it is not expected to be a reason for a face-to-face brawl to the budget negotiation.

This maneuver coincides with the pulse of the PP with the Government, since several autonomies in the hands of the popular have begun to act in the direction of subsidizing all or, at least, a part (such as Galicia and Murcia) the wealth tax, thus waging the battle against the Government with an eye on the elections of May 2023.
