Everything has changed. Almost. Because Gabriele Sbattella, who became famous between November 2002 and February 2003 when, for 79 episodes, was champion (the third longest…) of Sarabanda, has turned his life upside down in recent years. The public knows him by his stage name Uomo Gatto and as a great music expert. The passion for football and Germany has always emerged. On TV he often appeared wearing a Bayern Munich scarf, his favorite team. “The Bavarians have dominated the championship for 11 years, but this time I fear they will have to abdicate in favor of Leverkusen,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I’m disappointed with Tuchel, who I don’t consider suitable to coach Bayern.”
THE CHALLENGE WITH THE BIANCOCELESTI
—
The match against Lazio in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday. A delicate match, which however for the Cat Man, does not have an obvious prediction: “Bayern are favourites, but Lazio are strong and have the advantage of playing the first at home”. Over 20 years after his participation in Sarabanda, however, his life has completely changed: “I divide my time between the various events to which they invite me and my home. My partner Elena, who I consider my fuel, has been living with me for two years: in 2022, within a few months, I lost both my mother and my father. And being an only child, it was a very strong blow for me. In 2022, however, I met her, who brought so much light into my life.” And then journalism: “I write about music and sport, but I’m particularly proud of an article I wrote after speaking with a survivor of the Bataclan attack in Paris. I wasn’t sure I was capable of telling her story, but I am satisfied with the result.”
His life has changed a lot in these 20 years. However, his passion for Bayern remains unchanged. How did your love for the Bavarians arise?
“It was the end of the 1970s and I was in hospital for an operation. I saw Rai 3, which broadcast the best of the 1970 and 1974 World Cups, when Germany was very good at not getting upset in the decisive moment of the tournament. It was a very strong national team, with many Bayern players. And so I fell in love. But then I also lived and studied in Germany, becoming even more fond of it.”
Who do you like from the current Bayern?
“Müller, just because of the surname. It takes me back to my great idol Gerd. And it takes me on a nice journey back in time. I also like Kane a lot and I think that thanks to him, England is one of the favorites for the European Championships. However, this team lacks a flexible coach who knows how to react to unexpected events. For me, Tuchel doesn’t do that.”
What match are you expecting with Lazio?
“For me, Sarri’s team is not as doomed as it may seem. I think Wednesday’s match could be decisive, in one sense or another.”
How did your passion for music come about?
“I have been listening to music since I was a child and I began to absorb the songs. Over time I also noticed some details to distinguish the various songs quickly. Music is part of me, I will never stop listening to it and appreciating it.”
Do you ever talk to Enrico Papi?
“He called me about a year ago to collaborate on some projects, but I had to give up for health reasons. Even though I was very sorry. However, I preferred to slow down my artistic productivity to think about my health. Now, however, I would like to get back on the bike even in the world of entertainment…”.
