Pansies are the undisputed star of the first planting in tubs and pots in the garden, on the balcony and terrace.
For a long time I found the frost-resistant perennials a bit stuffy. But as I get older, I understand why my mother could never be without this type of violet in spring. Planted with a little horn shavings, they bloom reliably until the last night frost has given way and geraniums & co move into the pots.
Their smaller relatives, the horned violets, are a beautiful, slightly more casual alternative. Combined with Bellis (beautiful) and a little Easter decoration, the result is the first beautiful picture of the new garden year.
