The Castellers de Vilafranca make history again: they upload an unprecedented ‘nou de nou amb folre’

The ‘castellers’ of Vilafranca have made history again. After the feat achieved last year on the Tots els Sants day, when they managed to raise the first 9-story pillar, with ‘folre’, ‘manilles’ and ‘propuntals’ of history, this noon the ‘colla’ has managed to lift an unpublished ‘nou de nou amb folre’. It is a complex construction composed of nine stories high and nine people per floor and that, in total, it has needed almost 500 people to rise. Until now, it had only been attempted in trials, with partial success, but never in an official competition. Hence, today’s feat of the ‘verds’ has been received with so much enthusiasm among fans of the ‘castells’. “We have achieved something historic. It is the proof that nothing is impossible“, comments Sisco Benet, the ‘cap de colla’ of Vilafranca, excitedly.

The formation has been erected andn a crowded square with more than 6,000 attendees. It is there where the ‘verds’ have begun to build this complex castell. The ideologues of this structure initially proposed raising it with three simultaneous enxanetas. But this Wednesday, the Vilafranca ‘castellers’ tried it with just one. In total, they managed to gather a group of more than 500 people and, In total, it weighs more than 12,000 kilos. The construction has risen in all its splendor until the formation of the third fin. That’s where he ended up collapsing to the applause of the public. “It was a shame not to be able to complete it completely, but that doesn’t mean that we are facing an unprecedented achievement. No one had ever dared to take a ‘nou de nou amb folre’ to the square,” adds Benet in statements to this newspaper.

According to the ‘cap de colla’ of the ‘verds’, it was necessary more than five months of rehearsals to achieve this training. “This is something that is achieved after a whole year of work. You have to study all the pieces available and how each person can contribute their grain of sand to achieve something like this,” he explains after this Wednesday’s session, with which This year’s ‘castellera’ season concludes. “Now it’s time to rest. Next year, as always, we will have to start from scratch“, he assures.

Another of the curiosities of the day, reported by reporter Agustí Forné in ‘324.cat’, is the story of one of the protagonists of this feat. Is about Bru Terrades Baumalala, the only eight-year-old enxaneta who has crowned this historic ‘castell’ and who was also one of the participants in the video clip by American rapper Travis Scott in which the performer was seen dressing in green and joining the Vilafranca colla. “I went quickly, calmly and with concentration,” says the young man in relation to the achievement achieved this Wednesday.
