At Borussia Dortmund, the contracts of eight players expire at the end of the season. Due to a newly imposed austerity course by BVB, most stars cannot expect a salary increase if they are extended.
As the “Sport Bild” reports, the BVB bosses want to reduce the basic salaries of the players, but pay higher bonuses. That means: Only those who perform top-class will be paid top-rate in the future.
The black and yellow have even anchored this new credo in the new annual report under the item “Variability of personnel costs in the license area”.
Last year, BVB spent 231.2 million euros on staff, including 181 million euros for the license area. The district club paid around 120 million euros in basic salaries.
The players whose contracts expire after the current season are primarily affected by the new austerity measures. According to “Sport Bild”, only youngster Youssoufa Moukoko can hope for a salary increase in the event of an extension.
According to this, the Dortmunders are ready to withdraw Moukoko’s salary from currently around one million euros to four million euros. However, the youngster probably demands more than six million euros. Discussions about further cooperation are not planned until the end of November.
Reus and Hummels have to reckon with a drop in salary
BVB is also aiming for an extension with Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. With twelve million euros, the captain is one of the top earners at Borussia Dortmund.
But Reus, who is to be offered at least one more season, must be prepared to receive less basic salary. However, there have not yet been any concrete talks about an extension.
The same applies to Hummels, who is currently raking in around ten million euros. According to the report, the centre-back will be offered a one-year deal – at a lower base salary.
Disagreements about the contract period at Dahoud
Mahmoud Dahoud can also count on an extension, talks have already been held. However, there have recently been disagreements about the contract period. While the midfielder is pushing for another three-year collaboration, the BVB bosses are only offering him a shorter term. Salary jumps (currently around four million euros) are “difficult to do”, according to “Sport Bild”.
How things will continue with Raphaël Guerreiro is still completely open. Discussions have not yet taken place.
On the other hand, striker Anthony Modeste, permanent reserve player Felix Passlack and substitute keeper Luca Unbehaun have to reckon with a BVB farewell.
