The buses and trams will not run for a day: ‘we are done with it’

Bus drivers and tram drivers are done with it. On Wednesday 1 June, regional bus drivers will go on strike. On Thursday 2 June, the HTM bus and tram drivers will stop working.

Why strike

The HTM is on strike because the workload continues to rise and they do not receive a pay rise. Regional transport drivers not only want higher pay for themselves, but also to attract more young drivers. Marijn van der Gaag, director of FNV Streekvervoer: ‘Due to poor pay, too few new, young colleagues are recruited and the workload has been so high for years that absenteeism due to illness is 25 percent in some places. Employers really need to put in more effort for that.’

Strike

By our colleagues from AD we read that the unions have been negotiating a new collective labor agreement for HTM employees since November. But they don’t come out. The unions want, among other things, 5 percent more wages and they demand concrete agreements about reducing the workload. The management of HTM says it cannot respond to the requirements: “It just won’t work. We have not yet recovered from the financial consequences of the corona crisis.”

This does not run

There will therefore be no HTM buses and trams on Thursday 2 June. This means that the RandstadRail does not run in Zoetermeer.

On Wednesday 1 June, a large part of the regional transport will not run, such as the buses of EBS. After a call with several spokespersons, it appears to be difficult to indicate which buses are and are not running. On Wednesday, regional transport in The Hague, Zoetermeer and Delft will cease, but not every driver will participate. The fact is that it is very uncertain whether your bus will run that day. The spokesperson for FNV says that she finds it very annoying not to have this information, she would have liked to give travelers some clarity.
