The Buitenplaats part of the Drents Museum: ‘The ideal vision of the future’

They are happy at Museum de Buitenplaats in Eelde. Interim director Hanneke Hoekstra, among others, worked on the new plan together with Harry Tupan of the Drents Museum for months. Last night, during the council meeting of the Tynaarlo municipality, the decision was made: De Buitenplaats will come under the wing of the Drents Museum and the Het Drentse Landschap foundation will also take care of its maintenance.

“It’s almost impossible to express,” says Hoekstra about the joy that reigns. “I am just so happy that there is finally clarity, especially for the employees. But also that this wonderful whole will continue to exist with two great parties.”

It is not only Hoekstra who is happy. Harry Tupan, director of the Drents Museum, is also happy. He emphasizes that he considers it important to be able to involve the local community in projects and to strengthen the bond with the village of Eelde. “It shouldn’t just be a museum game there. Now that the decision has been made, I also have the opportunity to make appointments with people. That’s what I’m going to do, that’s what we’re working on.”

The lack of money for De Buitenplaats was the biggest problem. An impulse of 3.3 million euros, raised by the province, the municipality of Tynaarlo and the Drents Museum, among others, should give the museum a upgrade to give. The Drentse Landschap Foundation will take care of the maintenance for the next 20 years.

The municipality of Tynaarlo is contributing 1 million euros, while there were previously doubts about providing a subsidy. “We thought it was very important that the ensemble was maintained,” said councilor Hans de Graaf. “You notice that when you talk to people in Eelde, they all say that the ensemble must be preserved no matter what. That was very important for our municipality.”
