The Denver Broncos have to cope with the next setback at the wide receiver position. Jerry Jeudy was injured on Thursday and his team will definitely miss the NFL opener.
The Broncos trained with the Los Angeles Rams last week. During one of these sessions on Thursday, Jeudy suddenly grabbed his upper right leg. The wideout was treated and then had to be driven off the field.
Once in the dressing room, the WR needed further help because he could hardly put any weight on his leg. At this point, however, no alarm bells were ringing in Colorado. “It’s the hamstring,” Denver’s head coach Sean Payton explained matter-of-factly after the workout. “We’ll do an MRI and see what he’s up to.”
However, as “ESPN” has now reported, Jeudy is expected to be out for several weeks. The NFL start of the Broncos against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 10 is likely to come too early for the 24-year-old. This also applies to several of his teammates.
NFL: Wide receivers live dangerously in Denver
The Broncos have had a lot of wear and tear on wide receivers in pre-season. For example, Tim Patrick suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the first week of training camp and will sit out the entire upcoming NFL season. The Californian suffered the same fate last year after tearing his cruciate ligament.
Meanwhile, Jalen Virgil can keep Patrick company in the stands for the new NFL season. The WR was injured in the second preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers (20:21) and therefore needs surgery.
But there is a silver lining for the Broncos. Receiver Brandon Johnson returned to training Thursday after an absence of several weeks. A real reason to be happy for head coach Sean Payton in the thinned out WR room.
