On December 15th, The Black Crowes will release the re-recording of their second studio album “The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion”, originally released in 1992. In addition to the rock band’s hits – including “Remedy”, “Sting Me” and “Thorn in My Pride” – the record also contains fourteen unreleased tracks.
Back in October 2023, the group released a cover version of the song “99 Pounds,” originally by soul singer Ann Peebles and released on her 1972 album “Straight From the Heart.”
About 99 Pounds, Chris Robinson, who founded the group with his brother Rich Robinson in 1984, said he loved Ann Peebles and she was one of his “favorite singers of all time.” The group’s cover versions are always there to “make people aware of something they didn’t know about,” said the lead singer in an Instagram post.
The Super Deluxe Edition of the album included not only unreleased studio recordings – such as the 1991 song “Miserable” – but also B-sides and a live performance from the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, where the band performed all the songs on February 6, 1993 performed on the record. Additionally, the new version of “The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion” includes a recording from the Southern Tracks Studio in Atlanta, where the band played in early 1992. The studio session contained five songs – including her rendition of Ry Cooder’s “Boomer’s Story”. The album will be released on December 15, 2023 as a 4LP box, 1LP version, 3CD set, 2CDs or digitally.
