The German handball players dream of a medal at the upcoming home European Championships.
“At a European Championship, the semi-finals are always the big thing. That’s in one or two people’s minds. We hope that we won’t see the family again until the end of January,” said captain Johannes Golla to “SID”.
Coach Alfred Gislason’s team has been preparing for the tournament in Brunsbüttel since Monday. “We have a very homogeneous team. It fits together well,” said Golla and emphasized: “The whole team is looking forward to the event and will give everything for Germany. Everyone who competes wants to get as far as possible in their own country.”
The highlights of the final stage of the course are two tough tests against Portugal. The first meeting with the Portuguese will take place on Thursday (4 p.m.) in Flensburg, the tournament dress rehearsal on Saturday (6 p.m./both ARD) in Kiel. The European Championship begins for the selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB) on January 10th in the Düsseldorf football stadium in front of more than 50,000 fans against Switzerland.
