The big game: Aldo Grasso’s review of the TV series on Sky Altantic

THETHE BIG GAME
Genre: thriller
Director: Tommaso Capolicchio, Giacomo Durzi, Marcello Olivieri. With Giancarlo Giannini, Francesco Montanari, Elena Radonicich, Vladimir Aleksic, Lorenzo Cervasio. On Sky Atlantic

Francesco Montanari (in the center) in a scene from “The great game”.

Corso Manni (Francesco Montanari) is a football agent placed on the sidelines of the circles that countafter being excluded from the powerful Isg, the leading company of prosecutors in Italy, led by the authoritarian Dino De Gregorio (Giancarlo Giannini) together with his daughter Elena (Elena Radonicich), who is Manni’s ex-wife.

With a certain courage, which does not always correspond to successful outcomes in the staging, The big game try the road of the family-financial thriller choosing a slippery area and at the constant risk of simplifications: that of modern football.

Available on Sky (curiously the first episode was also released for free on the group’s YouTube channel), the series moves not without difficulty within the enclosure of family alliances and betrayalsperhaps wanting to look like Successionbut highlighting some writing limitations in the characters.

Produced by Eliseo Entertainment, The big game brings out the dark side of the ball having as references at least two recent books on the subject (far more profound and interesting): Grand Hotel Calciomercato by Gianluca Di Marzio and the story by Jorge Mendes written by Pippo Russo.

For those who love football and also the intrigues of football.
