The best tips for saving in November

Due to high inflation, prices have risen in almost all areas of life. While the months towards the end of the year were often marked by high expenses due to the Christmas festival, the coming costs this year can tear a particularly deep hole in the wallet. But that doesn’t have to be the case: You can also save electricity in your home office, for example, and there are countless tips for saving when you’re Christmas shopping. You can also find bargains elsewhere in November.

action days

November is the month of special offers, with three major events reducing prices in retail: Singles’ Day on November 11th, Black Friday on November 25th (in some stores this may be extended to a whole Black Week) and the Cyber Monday on November 28th.

On these days, many shops and online platforms offer lower prices or particularly good subscription offers. Whether it’s early Christmas shopping or a purchase that’s been overdue for a long time: large sums of money can be saved at the three events. The savings bank, however, warns against credulous access to the offers. The prices are often set higher than usual in the weeks before the action days, so that the normal price appears as a special offer at the event. It is therefore worthwhile to also compare the red price tags of the different shops.

Great saver fare on Deutsche Bahn

On December 11, Deutsche Bahn will increase prices again – by around five to seven percent, depending on the ticket class. But: While a flex ticket is 6.9 percent more expensive on average, according to reports from the Tagesschau, the starting price for tickets at the super saver price (from 17.90 euros) and saver price (from 21.90 euros) remains the same.

Incidentally, the two price categories can generally be worthwhile in the long run compared to the often more expensive flex price tickets if you don’t cancel trips often. Because the lower prices, for which you have to accept limited cancellation options and train commitments, can pay off – even if you don’t make a trip a year. In addition, there is no train connection anyway if the booked train is delayed or cancelled. You can use it to plan routes where there are frequent delays and thus travel more cheaply without being tied to a specific train.

Open a new account

Anyone who opens a new account often receives a bonus or special benefits as part of new customer promotions. The information platform BASIC thinking recommends a current account with comdirect for the month of November. If you open an account by November 18th, there should be a bonus of 50 euros.

Actually, this tip is not just limited to November, there are such offers at various banks and credit institutions throughout the year. But beware: Anyone who earns too much money with so-called account hopping will eventually have to pay taxes for it.

Cheaper Netflix subscription

A cheaper Netflix subscription has been available since November 3rd. For only 3.99 euros per month, the cheaper subscription allows you to watch exactly the same series and films as the normal subscription – but with advertising. If you don’t mind the commercial breaks, you can confidently change the subscription model. In fact, Netflix isn’t the only streaming service provider to have reintroduced commercial breaks: Hulu, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Disney+ are also planning or have already introduced a so-called AVoD subscription.
