In recent weeks we have been able to fully enjoy the wonderful weather and the pleasant sides of life on the terrace. But where is the best place to relax on one of the Brabant terraces? Like every year, Misset Horeca measured the terraces for cosiness and quality and compiled a Terrace Top 100 for 2023. You will find the Brabant front runner in Bergen om Zoom: it is Saus on the Boulevard.
“Brabant is the best province to sit on the terrace. Nationally in sixth place, but in Brabant number one. That says something about our hospitality,” says Frank van der Avert proudly. The owner of Saus tells his story in the radio program Afslag Zuid at Omroep Brabant.
Frank talks about the way his restaurant traveled in the Terrace Top 100. “We have had several visits from mystery guests and other judges to judge us on quality, expertise, wine and food and of course hospitality. In this way we have come one step closer to the Terrace Top 100. The best seven terraces are nominated for the highest places.
“I think we will continue until the last hours.”
Frank tells without hesitation that Saus’s terrace has a very special location. “On the water at De Bergse Plaat in Bergen op Zoom. The location is fantastic and the terrace is bathed in sunshine. We are very proud and are going to celebrate together. I think we will continue until the wee hours.”
How did Saus get the name sauce? “It is actually the nickname of our youngest son, who is a professional football player. There were several players with the first name Job in his team. The trainer then corrupted it into ‘Joppie Saus’. And Saus is left over from that.”
When asked by presenter Ronny Balk what the guests should really have tasted at the Bergse catering facility, he receives a tasty answer: “An honest chateaubriand on a bed of mushrooms and topped with truffle sauce”, Van der Avert sums up.
