The best streaming services for sports fans

Goal celebrations and cheering are no longer only available with a Sky subscription. But which streaming service is particularly worth getting started with for football, Formula 1 and Co.? TECHBOOK provides an overview.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s the Bundesliga, Champions League or Premier League: Hardly any sport in Germany draws more audiences in front of the screen than the round leather. Sky in particular has benefited significantly from football fans in recent years, after all, sports subscriptions have always been the undisputed driving force for the pay-TV provider. In the meantime, however, there is strong competition and that also in other sports. But what are the best sports streaming services? We looked at which subscriptions give you the most sports for your money.

Football and Formula 1

If you really want to see all the big professional leagues from the Bundesliga and Champions League to the Premier League and Serie A, you can’t avoid Sky and DAZN. Which also makes the problem clear: In the meantime, the league rights are no longer held by one provider alone, which is driving up the prices accordingly.

The Supersport monthly ticket, which can be canceled monthly, costs almost 30 euros, for DAZN the same amount is added again. In return, the DFB Cup and even the second division plus all Formula 1 races are included – measured in terms of the range and quality, the amount is still steep. Especially since there are also additional costs for the DSL or Internet cable connection.

US sports: NFL, NBA, MLB and Co.

US sports, from basketball to baseball to football, are also becoming increasingly popular in this country. However, Sky is not always the first choice here, if you disregard the NHL ice hockey league or the Golf PGA Tour. Matches of the national basketball league NBA as well as UFC and the football league NFL can be found continuously on DAZN, including baseball from the MLB Network. Here you will find, among other things, match scenes, highlights and analyzes of over 30 teams.

In the breadth of all US league sports, DAZN is actually indispensable. There are also savings opportunities if you opt for an annual subscription or prepayment. The best streaming services for US sports remain Sky and above all DAZN, despite the partially restricted offer.

Winter sports, cycling and tennis

Eurosport in particular is a good address for fans of tennis and cycling. Here you get an insight into important events such as the Tour de France or Giro d’Italia. The station also reports on major tennis tournaments such as the ATP or French Open. The streaming service DAZN is showing the Australian, French and US Open equally this year.

The topic of winter sports is also not neglected, in this regard Eurosport is dedicated to ski jumping, alpine skiing and biathlon, among other things. Another highlight is the Four Hills Tournament for ski jumpers, which is always held at the turn of the year in Germany and Austria and has been extremely popular for decades. This year, ARD and ZDF each broadcast two competitions, Eurosport showed all four competitions and the associated qualifying competitions.

Special case wrestling

The US wrestling league WWE operates its own streaming service, the WWE Network also available in Germany. All live events including Wrestlemania will be shown there. Plus weekly access to debut events like NXT, as well as documentaries, reality shows and original series. Also included are Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.

However, whether the offer will continue to be available in the future remains to be seen. In the USA, WWE is now running on the Peacock streaming service, which is available in this country via Sky. WWE Network is $9.99 per month. The price varies depending on the euro conversion rate.

Other national leagues

At MagentaSport from Deutsche Telekom, fans get a wide range of sports. There, for a monthly price of 16.95 euros without a contract period and telecom contract, there is, among other things, the third Bundesliga and all games of the German ice hockey league Penny DEL. MagentaSport is also particularly interesting for basketball fans who are less interested in the NBA than in German teams. The streaming service shows matches from the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga and the MagentaSport BBL Cup. In addition, the people of Bonn advertise with FC Bayern.tv Live. In terms of the low price, MagentaSport is definitely an interesting addition to the well-known streaming services.

Which sports streaming service is worth it?

The best sports streaming services are not easy to find. Nevertheless: Sky and DAZN remain unbeatable in premium sports, but that is also reflected in the price. At just under 30 euros per month, both services are expensive and, in principle, not worthwhile for occasional users.

MagentaSport is more of a niche product, but with a wide range and comparatively cheap. There is also a lot of women’s football to see there. It will be interesting to see whether content from the wrestling league WWE will also end up permanently with Peacock in Germany, at the start there were only films and series there. In any case, such a step would again significantly enhance Sky’s sports offering.

If you prefer to watch tennis, cycling and especially winter sports, Eurosport is the place for you. Ultimately, the choice of the right streaming service for sports fans depends primarily on who likes to watch what and how much money they are willing to spend on it.
