Romantic movies with a deep story on Netflix
Like a single day
Just as poignant as Beale Street is Day One, the best-selling adaptation of Nicholas Sparks. It tells the story of two young lovers who are torn apart in the turmoil of World War II. It’s not for nothing that the film is one of the long-running romantic hits on Netflix.
Marriage Story
Racism and war – a moving love drama does not always need so much horror. The romantic Netflix film “Marriage Story” shows that it can also be much quieter. It is not only one of the most beautiful genre contributions of recent years, but also one of the best films ever. Scarlett Johannsen and Adam Driver convincingly play two lovers, who are also two individuals with very individual dreams and as a married couple are threatened with their respective ambitions. The wonderfully quiet, multi-award-winning and also in the supporting roles with, among others, Laura Dern, Alan Alda and Ray Liotta tells how the two of them manage not to let their great pain overflow into destructive quarrels, for the sake of the common child excellently cast film by Noah Baumbach.
Two on one day
After her graduation ceremony on July 15, 1988, the reserved Emma (Anne Hathaway) and the outgoing Dexter (Jim Sturgess) have sex. And even if their paths separate for the time being, a deep friendship develops between the two. Their profound story is told over a period of 20 years, as they always see each other on the same day of the year, July 15th.
love to laugh
But love also works more cheerfully, that’s what the romantic comedy stands for. And here, too, Netflix is working hard around Valentine’s Day with romantic films to make you laugh.

Crazy Stupid Love.
“Crazy, Stupid, Love.” follows husband and family man Cal (Steve Carrell) who is abandoned by his wife (Julianne Moore) and is now trying to forget himself in alcohol and casual acquaintances. But of course it doesn’t work that easily, especially since Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei and Kevin Bacon cause further trial and error. This is how “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” becomes touching film fun. The otherwise strict “Lexikon des Internationales Films” rightly writes: “The comedy, which comes up with complex characters and clever dialogue, traces the longing and happiness, the disappointments and pain of love beyond the usual clichés and convincingly brings wit, romance and wisdom into harmony .”
crazy rich
Rachel (Constance Wu) is a renowned economics professor and happily together with her partner Nick (Henry Golding). On a joint trip to Singapore, she is said to even get to know his family – from whom she now has to learn that she is filthy rich. Down-to-earth Rachel must now hold her own in this new world of glamour, but most importantly in front of Nick’s mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh).
He’s just not that into you!
“He just doesn’t like you!” is similarly entertaining, even if the episodic and ensemble film doesn’t quite reach the density of “Crazy, Stupid Love.”. With Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Bradley Cooper and Scarlett Johansson, among others, the romantic film on Netflix has such a top-class cast that the show ratings alone make up for it.
More romantic movies and series on Netflix
In addition to all these more or less recent cinema successes, Netflix also relies on one or the other really big classic. Whether “Notting Hill”, “Dirty Dancing”, all the “Sissi” strips by the enchanting Romy Schneider or “It doesn’t get better” – these love stories are as touching as they were the first time, even after the umpteenth repetition.
