Johnny Marr has announced his new album “Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr” for November 3rd. With the record, the former The Smiths member wants to celebrate the first ten years of his solo career. The musician provides a foretaste with his single “Somewhere”, which he wrote during his 2022 tour and produced with James Doviak.
“I’ve played a lot of arenas over the years, and when it comes to songwriting, there’s nowhere to hide. For a song to work, it has to be a banger. “I know it’s almost uncool to think like that, but I grew up in a house where my parents listened to Motown, where you couldn’t release a song unless it was full of hooks,” says Easy Money. -Singer shared his ulterior motives for the song, which was released on March 2o. September and the accompanying music video were released.
The new record includes contributions from four of his solo albums – including 2013’s The Messenger, 2014’s Playland, 2018’s Call The Comet and 2022’s double album Fever Dreams Pts 1-4. In addition to the new single “Somewhere”, the record also includes the yet unreleased track “The Answer”, a cover version of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel You” and other non-album single releases.
The illustrated book “Marr’s Guitars” will also be published on October 17th, which includes contributions from Noel Gallagher, Bernard Butler and Ed O’Brien, among others. The rock musician describes it as “a guitar book for people who don’t normally own a guitar book.”
