The Wheel of Time (Season 2) – out September 1st on Prime Video
The first season of the fantasy series The Wheel of Time got off to a rocky start on Prime Video. This is also shown by the reviews, which were very divided. Nevertheless, the series has a lot to offer – including a top-class cast and impressive pictures. Accordingly, the second season also belongs on a series highlight list, especially since the sequel promises to do some things better. After the first big battle, Rand’s group split up. After discovering that he is the dragon reincarnated, the young man must learn to master his powers without going insane like all his predecessors. In order not to endanger his friends, he lets them believe that he has died. At the same time, Moraine must contend with the fact that she has lost access to her power and is now dependent on her protector, Lan.
A second chance
“Despite the rather mixed reviews of the first season, “The Wheel of Time” should definitely be on the screen! The series offers – apart from the already epic template – a lot of exciting aspects and a mostly very convincing cast. And despite all the justified criticism, one has to say that the series has already been able to implement many good aspects and now also has the chance to address the points of criticism in the second season. Domina (Season 2) – from September 7th on Sky/Wow
The opulently staged historical series “Domina” returns in September with a second season! Today, many Roman emperors are known even thousands of years after their reign. The first emperor Augustus, for example, who heralded a new Roman age after the unrest surrounding Caesar, is particularly well known. Or the warlike Emperor Nero, whose persecution of believing Christians found its way into pop culture. However, what fewer people know: Augustus’ wife Livia also bore the imperial title and was thus the first empress of Rome. The series takes a closer look at her story.
The Changeling (Season 1) – Coming September 8 to Apple TV+
The Changeling is a new fantasy horror series from Apple TV+; the novel of the same name by Victor Lavalle serves as a template. The story of Emma and Apollo actually reads like a normal romance novel: a book seller falls in love with a librarian. After she shows no interest at first, the two eventually become closer and eventually have a son. So far so beautiful. However, Emma rejects the baby and grows distant from Apollo. When she commits a terrible act one day and then disappears without a trace, he goes in search of her. In doing so, he is confronted with a New York he never knew existed.
The Morning Show (Season 3) – Coming September 13 on Apple TV+
In September, one of Apple’s most successful series returns for season three – The Morning Show. Two episodes will appear at the start, from then on it will be broadcast weekly. After the first season focused on the #MeToo debate, journalists Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) and their network struggled with the corona pandemic in the second season. The new season is about a large technology company showing interest in the broadcaster UBA and thus loyalties being put to the test.
The Gold (Season 1) – Coming September 14th on Paramount+
The British crime series “The Gold” comes from the BBC and deals with the robbery of the Brink’s Mat warehouse in 1983. This is now one of the biggest bank robberies in history. In six episodes, the series tells of the planning to the international consequences of the crime – and of course how gold bars worth several million pounds could ultimately be stolen. Starring Bradley Cooper, Charlotte Spencer and Hugh Bonville, among others.
Sex Education (Season 4) – Coming to Netflix September 21
One of the most famous Netflix series ends in September: “Sex Education”. The coming-of-age drama has already convinced in the past with a lot of humor and profound themes. Hanger was initially the job of protagonist Otis’ (Asa Butterfield) mother (played by Gillian Anderson). She’s a sex therapist. Not easy for a growing teenager. However, Otis tries to use the knowledge he has acquired to help his classmates and establish his own business. In season three, however, Moordale High was closed, so that the students now have to get used to a new environment in the final season. And it really has it all…
Long-awaited series finale
“Mooredale High School has lost its reputation and is closing. Sex, rebellion, alien musicals – the new ambitious headmistress Hope Haddon didn’t get along with them in the third season. With her as a sophisticated antagonist against woken individualism and the self-realization of young people, the series increased in depth and superficiality in equal measure. The big finale of Season 3 and Hope’s fall make you frown. Where is the psychological accuracy and satire with which the series once started? In the final season, it will now be seen whether “Sex Education” has survived itself or reinvented itself – after all, a new beginning awaits Otis and his friends in Cavendish College. In any case, behind the scenes there is talk of a “creative realignment”, in the context of which we unfortunately have to lose some great actresses; above all Patricia Allison and Tany Reynolds, whose characters Ola Nyman and Lily Igelhart, who is enthusiastic about aliens, have so far formed an unusual and lovable couple. But since some of the other supporting characters have already put in a promising character development in the third season, I hope for a funny, but still complex series conclusion that is worthy of the claim of “Sex Education”. The Continental: From the World of John Wick (Season 1) – out September 22 on Prime Video
Every John Wick fan is familiar with the Continental. The hotel chain caters specifically to assassins. They can rest there, exchange information and, if necessary, increase their arsenal of weapons. There is only one rule: no shops within the Continental. For the killers, this means that they are not allowed to kill anyone on site. The hotel chain repeatedly plays an important role in the “John Wick” films. No wonder, then, that there was great joy about a spin-off that deals specifically with hotels. In September the time has come and the new series starts on Amazon Prime Video. It should primarily be about a hotel in New York in the 1970s.
The Boat (Season 4) – from September 23 on Sky/Wow
Sky or the streaming service Wow offer the dewy fourth season of the German series “Das Boot” in September. We are still in the middle of World War II. Klaus Hoffmann returns to Berlin and is celebrated there as a hero. However, he is hiding a secret that leads to him being shadowed by the NSDAP. His sister Hannie, who is still trapped in her unhappy marriage, also plays a key role. In the meantime, military conflicts intensified in the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, U-boat commander Buchner has to deal with an informer on board.
Castlevania: Nocturne (Season 1) – Coming to Netflix September 28
After the extremely successful anime “Castlevania” there is now another adaptation of the video games of the same name. Now that Sypha, Trevor and Alucard have won their battle, the plot picks up years later. There we see another representative of the legendary Belmont family: Richter. Together with a magician he has to face other brutal monsters. Against the background of the French Revolution, chaos and destruction reign in the country. The Vampire Fuses Erzsebet Báthory tries to use this to her advantage to make an ancient prophecy come true.
Hopefully dark anime fun
“Personally, I’m really looking forward to the new Castlevanie series on Netflix this month! When it comes to anime, Netflix has had a very good record over the past few years and I really liked the three-season first attempt, even as a fan of the old games. “- Marlene Polywka, editor
Generation V (Season 1) – Coming September 29th on Prime Video
In addition to all the Marvel and DC blockbusters of the past few years, “The Boys” has always been superhero entertainment of a different kind – dark and full of humor, but also violence. In the spin-off “Generation V”, however, new heroes are to be the focus, and much younger than before. The action is set in a college. But of course Godolkin University is not a normal educational institution. Instead, Vought International trains budding superheroes or supes there. The young people are exposed to brutal competitions and of course a lot of drama.
