Every five years…usually. Now, after 1.5 years, a new House of Representatives has been elected. And it’s getting bigger and more expensive!

The number of MPs increases from 147 to 159. Actually 130 are planned – 60 percent from constituencies, 40 percent from lists. But through so-called compensation and overhang mandates, it can easily become even more.

It costs. Each member of parliament collects 6,910 euros gross per month. There is also a tax-free fee for the office.

The Berlin Parliament will be constituted on March 16, and then usually meets on every second Thursday. On the weekdays in between, the MPs meet in the specialist committees.
