The Bergamo public prosecutor’s office launches an investigation against Italian former Prime Minister Conte for negligence during the corona pandemic

Three years after the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the public prosecutor of the northern Italian city of Bergamo has launched an investigation against then Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. Together with eighteen senior officials, he is accused of negligence in the first phase of the pandemic, in the spring of 2020. With better precautions and faster intervention, thousands of deaths could have been avoided, says the prosecutor’s office.
