Children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces: a (very) large part of the Beers family traveled all the way to Hilversum to attend a broadcast of a daily BNNVARA talk show. Under the watchful eye of their family, ‘the oldest family in the world’ told their story on Monday evening.

Presenter Sophie Hilbrand begins: “The studio is packed with the Beers family.” What follows is loud applause from the hundred family members in the studio. The numbers don’t lie: the oldest family in the world – with thirteen brothers and sisters – now has 161 descendants. A number that can rise to 162 today or tomorrow.

“If all goes well, a great-great grandchild will be added today or tomorrow,” Hilbrand continues. The grandchild of Riek Beers is expecting another baby! All thirteen family members are still healthy. Is there a secret recipe for their healthy success? No actually not. “Just be nice,” one family member remarks.

Last week Nick and Riek Beers, twins, celebrated their 95th birthday interview in De Telegraaf. This brings the family to an age of 1101 years old in total. With this they have achieved the world record for families with thirteen children, Guinness World Records confirms. The record holders from Ireland were 1075 years old in 2017.

How did the broadcast and all the media attention de Beers family members fare? NH News reporter Tom Jurriaans was present behind the scenes and asks them. The report can be seen tomorrow at NH News.
