The Beauty of Sport: ‘Trampoline jumping is beautiful, but judging is a hassle’

Every sport has its beauty, but somewhere there is always an unattractive side. In episode five of the six-part series ‘The Beauty of Sport’, NH Sport reporter Erik-Jan Brinkman delves into trampolining.

Trampoline trainer Sven Mooij: “I like everything about the sport. You strive for everything to look as easy as possible.” Fans of the sport talk enthusiastically about trampolining. “You are really on your own” and “The control of the body and the cool tricks”, they see as beautiful sides of the sport.

Jury Sports

Trampoline jumping is a jury sport. That is therefore food for discussion. “On the one hand, that is the strength of the sport that specialists look at it. On the other hand, there can be a lot of fuss about it. That is the beauty, but also the weakness of such a sport,” says sports historian Jurryt van the furrows.

Mooij is also critical of his sport. “I do think that it can be made more interesting for the public to provide more insight into what is happening. Now sometimes someone wins with 1.0 difference. What that means is difficult for the public to see.”

In this episode, the many training hours are also discussed, just like the clothing and the comparison with the strict gymnastics world is made.

You can see the next episode of ‘The Beauty of Sport’ on Monday 11 July at 5.10 pm on television. Then the equestrian sport is central.
