The Beatles made Penny Lane in Liverpool world famous. In 1967 they released the number one hit of the same name, which they recorded in their London studio on Abbey Road. Since then, Penny Lane street signs have continued to disappear. Now one of them has resurfaced – 47 years after it was stolen.
A former student contacted “The Beatles Story” museum anonymously and said he wanted to return the sign that was stolen in 1976. As the British news agency “PA” reported, he was heavily drunk when he stole with his friends. In adulthood, he is now said to regret his crime and desperately want to transport the robbery back to the intended location. According to the museum, it is the oldest sign returned and will now be displayed on site.
