The bacterial flora and psychological well-being

S.psychobiotics are being studied, supplements with bacteria that would populate the intestinal microbiotawhich was once called bacterial flora, and which could improve mood.

A 2017 experiment, conducted atuniversity of Leidenin the Netherlands, showed that taking a drink with psychobiotic bacteria has reduced reactions to negative emotions and aggressive thoughts in volunteers.

Bacterial flora and mental health

Many scientists have found associations between some mental disorders and dysbiosis, the imbalance of the microbiota. Researchers at University College Cork, Ireland, transplanted intestinal microorganisms from depressed people into rats, which began to show signs of the disease (reproducing behaviors characteristic of depression in their species, such as refusal of sugary water).

On the contrary, could a healthy bacterial community be transferred to a patient? The hope is to get to manipulate the bacterial flora to heal the discomforts of the mind.
