According to Variety magazine, there will be several new changes at the 2023 Grammy Gala. The reforms include new categories.
AOP
The Recording Academy, an association of music professionals, has announced new award categories. The association has also updated its voting practices.
The reforms touch on the 2023 Grammy Awards Gala, the 65th anniversary of the celebration.
The new categories are as follows:
– Songwriter of the Year
The category focuses on the lyrics and the song itself. The new prize is intended to reward those authors who do not perform the song themselves but have done it.
– The best option for music performance
The category rewards a song that is alternative, i.e. representative of a non-traditional style. The prize can be awarded to a solo singer or a band.
– Best Genuine American Performance
The award is given to an artist or band who performs genuine Americanity in the performance of their song.
– The best video game or interactive media soundtrack
The category seeks to recognize the value of original sounds created in a video game or other format that interacts.
– Lyrics of the Best Album
The award will be given to albums with spoken or sung lyrics. The song can be with or without background music.

In addition, the Best Impressive Song Award will be added to the categories to take into account a song or artist who has taken a stand on a current issue. The award can also be obtained by building peace, empathy and understanding through music.
At the gala, voting practices will also change, which will be published later by the music association. According to Variety, there is a desire to renew the gala so that even more diverse artists and songs can be seen there.
– We are excited about the diverse communities of musicians who get to the gala. We want to be creating an environment that inspires change, process and communities, Academy Director Harvey Mason Jr. notes.
