The Länsi-Uusimaa police are warning in its announcement about a cryptocurrency scam whose victims have lost more than 100,000 euros in total.
According to the police, in one case 89,000 euros were taken from the victim, in the other around 16,000 euros. Both cases are being investigated as gross fraud.
The scams have started after the victim has made a small crypto investment online. Next, he has received guidance and services over the phone from a person posing as an investment advisor or other assistant.
“If the offer sounds too good to be true…”
In their announcement, the police warn against using unknown investment services. There lies the risk of becoming a victim of fraud.
It advises to invest only through established and generally known service providers. Investments should also not be made with sums that you cannot afford to lose.
– Investment advisors who contact you directly and the return expectations they promise should be treated with extreme caution. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it is, the police say.
If you have already sent money and you are asked to pay more in order to return it, for example under the guise of processing costs, you should not agree to the request under any circumstances, according to the police.
