The Ministry of Defense previously told RBC that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu offered Kusturica to become the chief director of TsATRA, and he, in turn, agreed.
The department noted that Kusturica called the minister’s proposal a great honor. According to the director, in his new position he plans to transfer the plots of films such as The Cranes Are Flying and Life Is a Miracle into performances.

Emir Kusturica is a Yugoslav and Serbian film director and actor who has won awards at major European film festivals, including two Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor, foreign member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska. Among his most famous film works are Gypsy Time, Black Cat, White Cat, Life is a Miracle, Testament, Through the Milky Way.
The Central Academic Theater of the Red Army (in 1951 it was first renamed the Theater of the Soviet, and then, in 1993, the Russian Army) began work on February 6, 1930. It was then that the play “K.V.Zh.D.”, dedicated to the Soviet-Chinese conflict on the Chinese Eastern Railway, was shown in Moscow.
The main directors of the theater in different years were Yuri Zavadsky, Alexander Dunaev, Rostislav Goryaev, Yuri Eremin, Leonid Kheifets, Boris Morozov.
