The arrival of meters high radio mast divides Schermerhorn: “Not beautiful, but necessary”

Horrific and a waste of the townscape, but also a necessary evil. The arrival of a 25 meter high antenna mast from telecom provider Vodafone is causing division in Schermerhorn. The idea is to place the mast close to the Sporting S sports club. “I don’t understand the municipality of Alkmaar, this is really the worst place imaginable,” said one of the residents.

Because many residents find the intended location of the transmission tower a stone’s throw from the church and the monumental regthuysje mind blow. “I have the idea that the municipality never came to see it, this really disrupts the landscape,” says resident Margriet Veldhuis.

On the other hand, accessibility in certain places in the village is a real problem. The men of the Sporting S sports club know all about that. “There is no coverage in the sports hall,” says manager Piet Groot. “When referees have to pass on the results, they sometimes have to walk outside.”

The mast is now in front of Sporting S, but chairman Henrico Timmer is not sorry about that. “It is not beautiful, but it is necessary. My father and mother’s apartment in the retirement complex has no range. That is also just dangerous, it should be in order there.”

In the meantime, residents are campaigning against the arrival of the transmission tower. Action posters hang behind many windows. NH Nieuws spoke with supporters and opponents
