The new feature film “The Apprentice” examines Trump’s rise in the 80s and 90s.
Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan is set to play Donald Trump. “CNN” reported this with reference to statements from film producers involved. It is currently not known when the film adaptation will be released in German cinemas. Neither is the start date for filming.
The 41-year-old may be known to some from the Marvel universe – for example from “Captain America 2: The Return Of The First Avenger”, where he played Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier. In 2022, Stan portrayed Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in the eight-part series “Pam & Tommy”.
Donald Trump: “The Apprentice” is a reference to the reality TV show of the same name
Before his term as US President, Donald Trump left his mark as a businessman in New York. These early years of his professional career are now processed in the film entitled “The Apprentice”. The film is intended to reference Trump’s role in the long-running reality TV show of the same name, in which he evaluated candidates for various jobs.
The plot of the feature film, as described by film producer Amy Baer (“Brian Banks”), focuses on themes such as power, ambition, corruption and deception. Director Ali Abbasi (“Holy Spider”) will direct the production. In addition to Sebastian Stan, Maria Bakalova (“Borat”), presumably in the role of Ivana Trump, and Jeremy Strong (“Times of Upheaval”) as lawyer Roy Cohn have also been announced.
More about Trump’s reality show
Trump’s television reality show aired on NBC from 2004 to 2017. The first season of the show ran from January to April 2004. The concept of this series, called the “13-week interview,” revolved around selecting a suitable candidate for a one-year contract worth $250,000 within one of Donald Trump’s companies.
In weekly episodes, two teams were given a task, the results of which were compared at the end. A member of the losing team was usually dismissed from the competition and sent home with the now familiar phrase “You’re fired!”
