The anti-Tesla from Sweden: This is the strategy Luvly is pursuing

The Swedish start-up Luvly is launching its electric vehicle, the Luvly O, this year, following a completely different strategy than the well-known electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.

• Urban environment
• Lightweight
• No charging at charging stations necessary

Swedish start-up Luvly was founded in 2015 and will launch its first model, the Luvly O, later this year. The company is pursuing its own strategy and hopes to gain market share through replaceable batteries, a design for urban environments and an affordable price, Benzinga reports. It can also be assumed that Luvly and Tesla have two different target groups in mind.

Ikea of electric cars

Luvly would like with his new electric car offer everything that Tesla is not. The American manufacturer is best known for designing luxurious electric cars at a technically high level. According to the company’s website, the Luvly O is primarily intended to be a light electric vehicle for the urban environment. According to Business Insider, the Swedish start-up is pursuing the idea of flat-packing the individual parts of the vehicle. The vehicle will then be assembled in so-called “micro factories” near the future customer. This is intended to reduce transport costs and emissions.

The vehicle manufacturer wants to do away with the negative effects of vehicles. Håkan Lutz, CEO and founder of Luvly told Business Insider: “Luvly was founded on the belief that the negative aspects of cars such as environmental impact, cost, endangerment of pedestrians and other road users, lack of space, by combining modern technological solutions with futuristic design can be softened”.

Small, cheap and replaceable batteries

Luvly’s future city car is comparable to a smart car, which should make handling in city traffic much easier. According to the website, the car should be available from 10,000 euros. A special feature are replaceable batteries. This is primarily intended to avoid tedious charges on the go. But Luvly is by no means a pioneer. The Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO has been using battery replacement for a long time.

“The current prototype of the battery is a lithium-ion battery designed for interchangeability. The package weighs 15 kg, has a capacity of 3.2 kWh and a format that makes it really very portable. The Luvly O is equipped with two such packages with a total of 6.4 kWh, which under normal conditions should give a range of around 100 km in city traffic,” Lutz told Best.
