In anticipation of en bloc resignations within the secretariat of the ANC that EL PERIÓDICO advanced this Wednesday, the entity’s management has chosen to hide behind the “statutes” and “internal democracy mechanisms”. In a statement, they recall that the members of the permanent committee – the hard core of the dozen members who command the entity – are chosen “democratically” from among all the national secretaries and lament the war of “leaks” to the press. Critics want to force the resignation of the president, Dolors Feliuor that is submitted to a matter of trust.
The crisis began with the decision to present an electoral candidacy outside the pro-independence parties. But the criticism has not so much to do with the idea, but with how it has been defended. They reproach Feliu for trying to impose his own plan, without having discussed it with all the members of the entity. To refute the argument, the management’s statement defends that the debate on the list will take place during the conference scheduled for March 11 and 12 on the UPC campus in Barcelona and they assure that it will be “transparent”. In this sense, they affirm that “there have always been intense debates” within the entity and that the divergent positions of its members only “certify the transversality of l’Assemblea”.
The degree of internal tension skyrocketed at the meeting on January 28, after Dolors Feliu’s proposal to create a group to start drawing up the list was resoundingly knocked down. It did not even reach a simple majority, with 29 votes against to 28 in favor, when two thirds of favorable votes were needed.
Now of the 68 members of the secretariat, there are about 20 critics of the current leadership. However, it is still unclear how many will step aside this Saturday. Among those thinking about it is the vice president of the ANC, Jordi Pesarrodona, aligned with those who point out the lack of debate. The objective of the critics is not to leave the entity, but collect signatures from the bases to achieve the dismissal of the current leadership and force elections in the entity.

Before seeing resignation as the only way out, the critics organized themselves into an internal current, the Col lectiu Indesinenter, which last week issued an ultimatum so that the permanent committee – of which the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and the coordinators of the commissions are part – agree to remodel itself. After this order, part of the critics come to the conclusion that it is not possible to redirect the internal crisis and that the only way out is his resignation from the secretariat.
On February 2, a secretary already resigned, Monica Batallaalthough he did so individually, while the resignations on Saturday are being worked on collectively.
