After two years without a real Alkmaar Evening4daagse, the 2022 edition started on Monday. Hikers from young to old, and from green to seasoned, ventured from the Ringersplein on a tour of 5 or 10 kilometers through Alkmaar and the surrounding area. For some young novices the first day was very nice, but also quite tough. “It’s a lot. It’s a lot, my legs are getting a bit tired.”
Of course there are also hikers who have been participating for many years. “Yes, I’m running for about the 40th time. I’ve been running since I was twelve,” Ria Volgers van Kootwijk tells media partner Alkmaar Central† She still remembers parts of the walking route that no longer exist. “You used to have the chicken bridge at the Daalmeerpad. You still had to do all those bridges. It has changed a lot, but very nice.”
A new organization, since Alkmaar Sports took over the baton from Wandelsportvereniging De Jeep, but still with the old familiar atmosphere. Organizer Mirjam van der Welle is delighted with how the first day of walking went. “The sun is shining, we hear music and we all see enthusiastic people crossing the finish line, so it went really well.”
The routes are marked with sprayed pavement tiles. Monday evening the red route was walked via Oudorp. Incidentally, with several bridges. There will be a lot more walking in the coming evenings. On the finish day there is also a special Toddler Run, so that little brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces can also taste the atmosphere.
