After the arrival of an autumn with historical heat records, at the beginning of the week, the AEMET put Spain on alert due to the arrival of a more humid and cooler Atlantic air mass that will cause “successive storms of Atlantic origin” that will affect the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

The week began with the arrival of storm Babet, that approached from the northwest of the peninsula and left more abundant rainfall in the extreme west of the peninsula, especially in the west and south of Galicia, Sanabria and the west of the Central system. The influence of this storm has been combined with the Alineanother atmospheric phenomenon that causes strong rains and wind.

The AEMET has explained that this Friday will begin with “a pair of fronts sweeping the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands from west to east, giving rise to Precipitation that may be locally heavy or persistent in Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, and weaker and more dispersed in both plateaus and Andalusia.”

Furthermore, the Agency has pointed out that there could be showers with some locally strong storms in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. “With less intensity and probability they may affect other areas of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, being less likely in the southwest, Levante and southeastern coasts”, has pointed out.

The AEMET has activated the red notice on the north coast, with waves of 8 to 10 meters, and the orange notice in the Balearic Islands. The wind gusts on both the Cantabrian coast and in Mallorca and Menorca are expected to reach 100-110 km/h.
